Join us for a hugely exciting and unique opportunity to hear from our 2024 prize winners in conversation: V. V. Ganeshananthan, winner of the 2024 Women’s Prize for Fiction for her deeply moving, powerful second novel, Brotherless Night, which depicts a Tamil family fractured by the Sri Lankan civil war; and Naomi Klein, awarded the inaugural Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction for Doppelganger: A Trip into the Mirror World, an urgent, illuminating examination of our polarised society. Together, they will discuss their approach to research and their writing process, their award-winning books, and their experience of the Women’s Prize so far.
V. V. Ganeshananthan’s debut novel Love Marriage was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction in 2009. Her work has appeared in Granta, The New York Times, and Best American Nonrequired Reading, among others. Brotherless Night draws on 16 years of research into the Sri Lankan civil war. Since 2017, Ganeshananthan has co-hosted a podcast called fiction/non/fiction with novelist Whitney Terrell, about the intersection of literature and the news, featuring writers like Marlon James, Madeline Miller and Jia Tolentino. She teaches in the MFA program at the University of Minnesota, where she is a McKnight Presidential Fellow and associate professor of English.
Naomi Klein is the award-winning author of international bestsellers including This Changes Everything, The Shock Doctrine, No Logo, No Is Not Enough, and On Fire, which have been published in more than thirty-five languages. She is an associate professor in the department of geography at the University of British Columbia, the founding co-director of UBC’s Centre of Climate Justice, and an honorary professor of Media and Climate at Rutgers University. Her writing has appeared in leading publications around the world, and she has a regular column for The Guardian.
